Within two hours of each other, the neighboring **Buffalo Grove and Long Grove** fire departments responded to fires in their respective areas. Both incidents had the potential to cause significant damage if they had occurred just a few hours later, when residents were asleep. Buffalo Grove was the first to act after 11 PM, responding to a fire that originated in a dryer vent located in the crawl space of a small home on St. Marys Parkway. The crew quickly arrived, assessed the situation, and began containment efforts. Shortly after returning to the station, they were called upon to assist the Long Grove Fire Department with another emergency.
The Long Grove fire was reported by a resident who ran across the street to the fire station just after midnight, alerting staff to a fire in his home. Upon arrival, the battalion chief spotted smoke coming from a single room. The first arriving unit swiftly extinguished the fire before it could spread. No hydrants were available at the scene, so a tanker truck was used to provide additional water for suppression.
Photos captured the response efforts. One image shows a supply line being secured to the tower ladder as firefighters investigate smoke at 410 St. Marys Parkway. Another highlights a hydrant positioned directly in front of the house where the dryer vent fire was discovered. Tower 25, which was delivered in 2010 by Ferrara, played a key role in the operation.
In Long Grove, Squad 55 had to cross the street from the fire station to reach the scene of a small house fire on Old McHenry Road. A tanker truck was also deployed to support the engine’s water supply, ensuring that the fire remained contained to the room of origin. The quick response prevented further damage and kept the situation under control. These events underscore the importance of rapid firefighter response and community vigilance in preventing major disasters.
