The Alsip Fire Department has recently received a 2012 Seagrave Marauder II pumper, marking a significant update to their fleet. Once training and equipment installation are completed, Engine 2063 will be deployed at Station 1 on Pulaski, while Engine 2023 will transition to reserve status at Station 2. The older 1986 Spartan/Grumman/TeleSqurt unit (Engine 2053) is set to be decommissioned and will soon find a new purpose in Ecuador. With this new arrival, Alsip now operates three Seagrave engines and a ladder truck, making them one of the few departments in the region with an all-Seagrave apparatus fleet.
This is the first engine in Alsip’s fleet to feature roll-up doors and a 2,000-GPM pump. The new unit also comes with a painted steel bumper adorned with chevron striping, a zolatone pump panel instead of traditional brushed stainless steel, and the first use of shorter “barrier-style†doors in the department. These updates reflect a modernization effort aimed at improving efficiency and aesthetics.
A comparison with the older 2007 Seagrave Marauder I engine (Engine 2033), which was built during the company’s 150th anniversary year, shows some similarities but also key differences. While the older model had a 1,500-GPM pump, the newer unit offers greater pumping capacity and updated design elements.
One notable addition is a new tag on the pump panel that clearly lists the capacities for water and foam tanks—something that enthusiasts and historians will appreciate. This detail adds value not only for operational clarity but also for documentation and historical record-keeping.
The department is clearly investing in both functionality and style, ensuring that their fire apparatus remains up-to-date and efficient for years to come.
