Smoke and falling glass were reported in an extra-alarm fire at the Old Chicago Main Post Office building on Tuesday morning, which eventually led to the closure of the Eisenhower Expressway. Fire officials confirmed a multi-floor blaze at 404 W. Harrison St.
This is the second fire in two years at the now-vacant building, which also caught fire in November 2014. That incident was reportedly caused by trains passing beneath the structure.
The United States Postal Service moved out of the building in 1997 when it opened a newer facility in the area.
