Loaner engine for Elk Grove Township – update

Bill Friedrich shared a photo of the engine currently being used by the Elk Grove Township Fire Department, which was previously owned by the Galesburg Fire Department. > "I took this shot of the loaner engine that Elk Grove is using while their Spartan/Alexis unit is getting repairs. The loaner is X-Galesburg FD Engine 52. I also included a picture of the same truck when it was still in service with Galesburg."

Galesburg Fire Department Engine 52 Spartan Alexis

The engine served the Galesburg Fire Department as Engine 52. It was built in 2003 on a Spartan Diamond chassis by Alexis with a 1,500-GPM pump and 600 gallons of water. Bill Friedrich photo

This particular engine has a long history of service, and it's interesting to see how it's now helping another department while undergoing maintenance. These kinds of loaner units are common in fire departments, especially when equipment needs time for repairs or upgrades. It’s always cool to capture the transition of a piece of firefighting gear from one station to another.

Oxygen generator

The air we breathe is about 21% oxygen. Oxygen for industrial use is generated by separating oxygen molecules from the other molecules within a clean, dry compressed air stream. Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) is a simple, reliable and cost-effective technology that enables continuous, high-capacity oxygen flow at the desired level of purity. Adsorption happens when atoms, ions or molecules from a substance (compressed air in this case) adhere to a surface of an adsorbent. PSA technology isolates oxygen molecules from other molecules (nitrogen, CO2, water vapor and trace gases) to leave high purity oxygen at the outlet of the generator. The process takes place in two separate pressure vessels (tower A and tower B), each filled with a carbon molecular sieve, that switch between a separation process and a regeneration process.
