Last night, the Pink Heals Tour made a stop in Downers Grove, drawing attention from local residents and fire truck enthusiasts. Bill Friedrich was there to capture the event, photographing the iconic pink fire trucks that have become a symbol of awareness and support for breast cancer causes.
Among the highlights was the appearance of "Anne Marie," a Thomas-Built bus painted in a striking pink hue. The vehicle stood out as a powerful visual representation of the tour's mission. Another notable unit was "Karen," a 1989 Spartan/FMC 1500/500 from Capitol Heights VFD, Maryland. Her presence added to the growing collection of vintage fire apparatus that are being repainted in pink for this special campaign.
A special feature of the event was the Pink Heals Ribbon, which was displayed proudly alongside the tour’s trailer. This ribbon serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Additionally, "Tonya," a 1988 E-One Hush 1500/500 from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, made an appearance, while "Leslie," a 1991 E-One Hush 1250/500/40 from Tyler, Texas, was also seen on display.
One of the most interesting moments came when "Karen" was seen towing the Pink Heals trailer, showing how these historic vehicles are being used not just for nostalgia, but for a meaningful cause. The event brought together fans, firefighters, and community members who were all eager to support the Pink Heals initiative and celebrate the spirit of resilience and hope.
