Recently, Continental announced that it has made new progress in the research and development of its turbocharged products. The world's first automotive aluminum turbocharger has been mass-produced.
It is understood that in the first half of this year, the turbocharger has been put into the market with the three-cylinder gasoline engine of MINI Hatch.
Wolfgang Breuer, head of the engine systems business unit at Continental's Powertrain Systems Division, said: "The aluminum turbocharger is a milestone. This lightweight material product weighs nearly 30% less than conventional products and also reduces costs."
According to Udo Schwerdel, head of the company's turbocharger product line, this product breaks the stereotype of the traditional turbocharger as an engine-added component and is integrated with the engine. In the product design, not only the requirements of the turbocharger itself, but also the successful integration of this product into the engine cylinder head.
