This innovative system replaces the traditional parking brake mechanism, allowing automakers to eliminate the need for mechanical lever systems. Instead, drivers can now engage the parking brake with a single button press, offering a more streamlined and user-friendly experience. This change not only enhances convenience but also frees up valuable space on the center console, making it easier to store items or operate controls. The new product, called APB-M (Automatic Parking Brake - Electromechanical Brake), is engineered to provide exceptional comfort for drivers. It operates with remarkable silence and rapid response, ensuring a smooth and quiet driving experience. Additionally, the system supports advanced features such as a software-based wear indicator that alerts the driver through the dashboard. Bosch plans to launch the APB-M into full-scale production in 2010, marking a significant step forward in automotive technology. When paired with the Electronic Stability System (ESP), the APB-M significantly improves driving comfort in various scenarios. For instance, when a vehicle comes to a stop on an incline, the ESP system maintains brake pressure even after the driver releases the pedal, preventing the car from rolling back. Once the driver accelerates again, the brake is automatically released. In cases where the engine is turned off or the driver exits the vehicle, the motor locks the parking brake securely. Upon restarting the vehicle, the system automatically disengages the brake without any manual intervention, enhancing both safety and convenience.
