That’s why Emerson Bearing recently launched a dedicated division focused on supplying high-quality bearings and related products to the plastics industry. The plastics sector is heavily reliant on extruders and injection molding machines, both of which depend on durable and reliable bearings to operate efficiently.
In an extruder, plastic is forced through a die under high pressure, and the gearbox experiences extreme torque as well as heavy radial and axial loads. This makes bearing maintenance and timely replacement absolutely critical. Injection molding machines, used for mass production of plastic parts, also require bearings that are resistant to heat and vibration, with strong load ratings. Regular inspection and upkeep are essential to avoid downtime and maintain productivity.
Emerson Bearing has already seen great success with several clients in the plastics industry. These include a North Carolina-based company that produces plastic wine corks, a manufacturer of plastic bags (including biodegradable options), and another that specializes in plastic strapping.
Interestingly, the plastics industry often reflects the health of the broader economy. During the 2008 recession, one of our plastic strapping clients only operated seven of its 12 production lines, running two shifts per day. Today, they're back to full operation—three shifts around the clock. It seems like the old adage from *The Graduate* might have been spot on after all.
