SAN FRANCISCO, November 28, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has named Joe Speicher as its inaugural Chief Sustainability Officer, effective since July. During his time at Autodesk, Speicher has taken on numerous leadership positions across the sustainability and Foundation divisions. In his new capacity, he reports directly to the company’s CFO. This appointment underscores the growing significance of the Chief Sustainability Officer role in achieving sustainability goals and fostering business growth.

"Joe's appointment as our first Chief Sustainability Officer strengthens our dedication to executing our broader impact strategy and driving substantial change within the sectors we serve," said Debbie Clifford, Chief Financial Officer. "Embedding sustainability into the finance function allows us to integrate this work into core business operations and allocate resources towards innovations addressing the world's most urgent challenges."
As Chief Sustainability Officer, Speicher is responsible for shaping and executing Autodesk’s sustainability and impact strategy, developing metrics and reports, and spearheading cross-industry initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability capabilities for customers. He continues to head the Autodesk Foundation, a philanthropic entity committed to funding groundbreaking solutions to the world's most pressing social and environmental issues. Additionally, he chairs the company’s ESG Steering Committee, ensuring Autodesk evaluates and tackles issues pertinent to its external ESG objectives, including materiality assessments, measurements, management, and disclosures.
In industries ranging from housing and infrastructure to product manufacturing and entertainment, Autodesk’s clients are challenged to deliver faster, more sustainably, at reduced costs, and with superior quality. However, many businesses still rely on outdated tools and methods, struggling to keep pace in a rapidly digitizing and AI-driven world. Through synchronized data, insights, and automation via connected workflows, Autodesk’s Design and Make Platforms aim to minimize rework and waste production while delivering more sustainable results and reducing emissions.
"Autodesk stands at the intersection of some of the most creative and impactful industries globally. Over the past few years, we've witnessed a significant shift in market trends favoring sustainable outcomes—and Autodesk is leading this charge," stated Speicher. "We're building a platform to democratize access to advanced technologies and data for industries with high carbon footprints because we believe this presents our greatest chance to combat the effects of climate change."
