Structure fire in Harvey, 3/12/15

This morning, the Harvey Fire Department responded to a full-scale alarm at a tire storage facility located on 10 W. 147th Street. According to reports from the Chicago Tribune, firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a fire early Thursday at a tire shop near the intersection of 147th Street and Ashland Avenue in suburban Harvey. When they arrived, one of the buildings on the property was completely engulfed in flames, prompting crews to take a defensive stance outside the structure. It’s worth noting that the site previously functioned as a lumberyard. The images below, captured by Tim Olk, provide a glimpse into the intensity of the situation. The first set of photos shows an E-ONE tower ladder deployed at the fire scene, highlighting the significant resources committed to controlling the blaze. Another image captures the red and black fire engine arriving on-site, ready to assist in extinguishing the flames. As the firefighting efforts progressed, the structure eventually collapsed due to the severity of the fire, as seen in one of the later photographs. These dramatic scenes underscore the challenges faced by emergency responders when dealing with large-scale fires, especially those involving flammable materials like tires. Despite the intensity of the situation, the swift action of the Harvey Fire Department helped mitigate potential risks and ensured the safety of surrounding areas.
