Magnetic Separator Overview
Magnetic separation is a continuous process used to separate magnetic materials from non-magnetic ones. The mixture is passed through a strong magnetic field where the magnetic material gets attracted to the separator and is discharged in a chute. This method is efficient for removing iron particles from various materials.
The efficiency of the magnetic separator depends on the magnet strength and conveyor speed. The magnet length is designed to keep the magnetic material in the field for 0.4 to 0.5 seconds. Strontium Ferrite permanent blocks are used to achieve a surface gauss of 2500.
The gap between the magnet and conveyor can be adjusted. A smaller gap improves separation efficiency. Each separator has its own drive system, and stainless steel splitters help guide the material effectively. Vibrating feeders with unbalance motors ensure even distribution across the belt, enhancing performance.
Magnetic separators are available for belt widths ranging from 650 mm to 2000 mm. They are widely used in industries such as mining, cement, chemicals, and food processing.
Types of Magnetic Separators
Electromagnetic Type: Uses rare earth and ferrite magnets, often equipped with a control panel.
Permanent Type: Utilizes excitation coils without a control panel. Ideal for continuous use with high iron content.
Discharging Types
Manual Discharge (without motor and belt)
Self-Discharging (with motor and belt)
Cooling Methods
Air Cooling, Oil Cooling, Fan Cooling (only for electromagnetic types).
Operating Principle
The magnetic and non-magnetic material passes under the separator via a conveyor. A feeder ensures even distribution. Magnetic material is attracted upwards toward the magnet face, carried along the cleated belt, and discharged into the magnet chute. Non-magnetic material is carried by the bottom conveyor and discharged into the non-mag chute.
