This is a throwback post from Mike Summa for #TBT:
Here's a look back at two fire departments standing side by side, both equipped with similar apparatus. Oak Forest Engine 94 was a 1971 FWD/Pierce pumper with a 1250/500 gallon tank and a 54-foot Squrt. Midlothian Engine 2 was a 1973 Seagrave pumper with the same 1250/500 capacity but a smaller 300-gallon tank, also featuring a 54-foot Squrt. The Oak Forest unit has since been retired, but Midlothian had their engine rebuilt in 1994 by Pierce, swapping out the original cab for a Pierce Arrow model and upgrading the pump to 1500/500. It’s fascinating to see how these old rigs were modified over time.Mike Summa

It's always interesting to see how these older apparatus evolved over the years. The Squrt platform was popular back then, and it's cool to think that some of them might still be around. If you know of any other 54-foot Squrts still in service or on display, let us know!
