Crash with entrapment in Wheeling, 7-21-18

Wheeling police and firefighters responded to a multi-vehicle collision involving entrapment on Milwaukee Avenue at Hintz Road on Saturday afternoon, July 21, 2018, around 2 p.m. Upon arrival, emergency crews found three severely damaged vehicles, with one of them containing three individuals who required immediate extrication. Wheeling Battalion 24 called in additional resources, including Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51 and a total of six ambulances, along with Wheeling Engines 23 and 42 that were already on the scene. Additional support came from Prospect Heights Engine 901, Engine 39, and Battalion 9. Seven injured individuals were transported from the scene, several of whom were in critical condition. Ambulances from Northfield Squad 29, Des Plaines Engine 61, Deerfield-Bannockburn Ambulance 19, and Long Grove Ambulance 55 assisted the local fire department during the operation. Emergency responders worked quickly to free the trapped victims, with multiple agencies coordinating efforts to ensure timely medical care. The crash remains under investigation, and no official cause has been released yet. Local residents reported heavy traffic and road closures in the area following the incident.
