The 2024 User Conference hosted by Flyability in Switzerland was nothing short of spectacular. Initially advertised for 150 attendees, the event sold out with a total of 180 participants. The Alpha-Palmiers Hotel in central Lausanne, with its spacious facilities, perfectly accommodated the high turnout. It was a fantastic opportunity for Flyability's team to connect with Elios enthusiasts from all corners of the globe.
One of the highlights of the conference was undoubtedly the launch of the Elios 3's latest payload: the ultrasonic thickness probe. Co-founder and CEO Patrick Thévoz introduced the payload, followed by Flyability’s CTO Adrien Briod, who shared the fascinating journey of its development. Since the Elios 2, developing a UT payload had been a goal for Flyability, but it was the modular design of the Elios 3 that provided the ideal platform for such a payload.
Developed over four years in collaboration with Cygnus Instruments, a company with over 40 years of experience in ultrasonic thickness measurements, the payload was unveiled to a live audience of over 600 registrants via a livestream. The excitement in the room was palpable as Adrien Briod effortlessly caught the payload mid-air during its demonstration.

Stefano Zampieri, the product manager for the UT payload, explained that the payload had undergone over 100 days of rigorous field testing to ensure its readiness for the market. He emphasized the unique features like the articulated arm and cleaning module, which enable it to operate effectively in challenging environments. Attendees also heard from industry experts Malcolm Connolly of C-Bird, Courtland Penk of Osprey Integrity, and Danny Landry of Acuren, who shared their experiences as beta testers and advisors of the UT payload.

The energy sector was represented by Anders Lindstrom of Vattenfall, who outlined the Elios 3's applications in power generation. Amanda Smith of Sellafield and Kevin Young of the Idaho Environment Coalition discussed nuclear waste management and the Elios 3's role in providing safer data collection.
Day two began with Professor Jonathan Li discussing the value of drone-based LiDAR scans in mining. Anthony da Silva of Suez Sevesc and Lucas Senault of Flyability explored drone inspections for better sewer management. James Arnott of TEXO concluded with an analysis of using the Elios 3 for oil and gas inspections.
The networking dinner at the Domaine de la Crausaz was a memorable event. Nestled among the vineyards along Lake Leman, attendees mingled and tested the Elios 3 UT payload. Spontaneous performances by attendees added to the charm of the evening.
The "Fishbowl" session showcased diverse Elios applications, from emergency responses to unconventional uses. Speakers included George Burne from Coptrz, Ruben de Lange from Vortex, and Jim Panton from Panton McLeod, each sharing unique insights into the Elios 3’s versatility.
The conference concluded with heartfelt thanks from Patrick Thévoz, who expressed gratitude for the global community that makes Flyability what it is today.
