At approximately noon on Friday, June 7th, 2019, Palatine firefighters were dispatched to the Hobby Lobby located at 615 E Dundee Road following reports of a vehicle having crashed into the building. Witnesses stated that the car was on fire and the driver appeared to be trapped inside. Upon arrival, police officers took immediate action, utilizing fire extinguishers in an attempt to suppress the flames. With the help of emergency responders, the vehicle was successfully removed from the building, the fire was extinguished, and the driver was promptly transported to a nearby hospital. Units from Palatine Rural and Hoffman Estates also provided assistance at the scene.
Not long after this incident, a separate call was received regarding a potential smoke issue at a residence in Palatine. Due to most of the local units being occupied with the earlier incident at the Hobby Lobby, units from neighboring Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove were dispatched to investigate the situation. This Code 3 response was crucial in addressing the smoke concern, ensuring that the situation was handled efficiently despite the limited availability of local resources.
