Around noon on Friday, June 7th, 2019, firefighters from Palatine responded to a car accident involving a vehicle that had crashed into a Hobby Lobby store located at 615 E Dundee Road. Witnesses reported that the car was on fire and the driver was trapped inside. When police officers arrived at the scene first, they quickly sprang into action, using fire extinguishers in an attempt to control the flames. With their swift efforts, the car was eventually pulled out of the building, the fire was extinguished, and the driver was rushed to the hospital. Units from both Palatine Rural and Hoffman Estates provided additional support at the scene.
In the meantime, just minutes after this incident, another emergency call came in regarding smoke detected in a residence elsewhere in Palatine. Since many of Palatine’s initial response units were already occupied at the Hobby Lobby incident, reinforcements from neighboring departments such as Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove were dispatched to investigate the situation at the second location.
