China's growth rate of fluorine chemical workers will maintain 12%
During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, China's fluorine chemical industry is expected to maintain an average annual growth rate of around 12%. Specific segments show varying rates: hydrogen fluoride at 9%, inorganic fluorides at 8%, fine fluorine chemicals at 12%, ODS substitutes at 18%, HCFC-22 at 7.5%, PTFE at 7%, meltable fluororesins at 23%, and fluorine rubber at 12%. These figures were revealed at the 5th China Fluorine-Silicone Organic Material Industry Association meeting.
China is the world’s largest producer and exporter of fluorite, accounting for over half of global production. However, since 2000, export volumes have been on a declining trend. The sustained development of the fluorine chemical industry is crucial for both economic and environmental reasons.
Over the past five years, the growth rate of hydrogen fluoride has reached 12% annually. This increase is largely driven by demand for organic fluorine products, such as F22 and PTFE. As one of the world's leading producers of fluoropolymers, China has seen a significant rise in PTFE consumption, from 13,000 tons in 2002 to over 24,000 tons in 2005. In 2004, PTFE exports reached 3,900 tons.
Domestic demand for fluorine-based products has grown faster than the global average. The rapid expansion of the aluminum industry has increased the need for aluminum fluoride. Meanwhile, the removal of import quotas for textiles has boosted demand for high-quality fluorine-based textile finishes and reactive dyes. The electronics sector also relies heavily on high-purity hydrogen fluoride and specialty fluorides. Additionally, pharmaceuticals with fluorine compounds are gaining attention due to their physiological activity, while green agriculture is showing growing interest in eco-friendly, low-toxicity fluorochemical pesticides.
Global environmental regulations and rising labor costs in developed countries have led to the relocation of basic fluoride and intermediate production to China and South Asian countries, presenting new opportunities for China’s fluorine industry.
According to reports, during the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan," the focus will be on optimizing product structures, promoting mid- to high-end products, improving self-sufficiency, and accelerating the development of high-value fluorine materials, including meltable fluoropolymers and new ODS substitutes.
